Trey Lance slowly emerged as one of the most interesting prospects in the 2021 NFL Draft.
The former North Dakota State quarterback will be playing at the next level with the San Francisco 49ers after being taken with the No. 3 pick on Thursday night. But that’s not the only reason fans are buzzing about him on social media.
Colin Cowherd raised some eyebrows when he casually mentioned on “The Herd” podcast in late March that Lance was at his house.
“I think he’s special,” Cowherd said of Lance while discussing the quarterback-heavy draft. “By the way, I’m not going to lie, he was at my house 24 hours ago. Very humble, very gracious, he’s got all the right things in life that he cares about.”
Wait, what?
Cowherd never went into detail about why Lance was at his home, which resulted in the internet guessing about his connection to the NFL prospect. That speculation led sleuths to Cowherd’s 20-year-old daughter, Liv.
It was discovered that Lance and Liv have some sort of Instagram connection. They follow one another on the app, and Lance has even dropped a few comments and “likes” under Liv’s photos — including a selfie shared in mid-April.
Despite the romance buzz, neither Lance nor Liv has addressed the spotlight on their friendship.
Colin Cowherd had plenty to say, though, once the 49ers selected Lance.
“I think it’s the right pick. I think he’s a bigger, stronger athlete than Mac Jones,” Cowherd said of the Alabama quarterback whom the 49ers considered taking before grabbing Lance.
“I know Trey, I like him, I think he’s really good kid. This is 6-foot-4, 220 [pounds], big arm, can run — he has as many starts as Mac Jones, but unlike Mac, he didn’t have the protection, didn’t have the many receivers that were wide open. Every scout I know, every executive I know loves this kid. This is the right move. I’m sorry, but I can’t go low ceiling with Mac Jones, can’t do it. Ha, it’s great. Yeah, baby, kid earned it, couldn’t be happier.
“Kid earned it, couldn’t be happier.”
Liv did not comment, but did retweet her dad’s praise of Lance.
