Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen nearly jinxed his relationship with Hailee Steinfeld with the Christmas present he bought her last year.

Steinfeld made the revelation in her newsletter, explaining how the Bills star bought her a knife for Christmas in 2023.

‘I got this knife for Josh last year for Christmas because cooking is something we love to do together,’ she said. ‘For Christmas he got me… the same one in a different colorway!

‘After we exchanged our knives, he told me there’s an old wive’s tale that if you gift your significant other a knife you have to pay for it, otherwise it signifies the severing of a relationship. So we exchanged quarters so we didn’t have that bad omen.

‘Anyway, oh my God, I love this knife! I don’t know much about a chef’s knife but it is just so nice and makes me feel official.’

The knife in question costs around $430 – small change for Allen, who is on a six-year, $258million deal with the Bills.

Allen, one of the most highly regarded players in the NFL, has been dating the actress Steinfeld since last year.

The 28-year-old and his Bills team are 4-2 for the season so far and play Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Highmark Stadium.

The quarterback is expected to line up alongside Amari Cooper for the first time, with the Bills trading for the wide receiver earlier this week.

‘Knowing what type of caliber of a player that he is excites me,’ Allen said earlier this week.

‘Another guy in this locker room that, from what I can see so far, and what I’ve been told about him, is all about winning, and is going to do everything that he can to help this team win football games.

‘And you get a group of men in this locker room, that all want the same thing and want to work towards the same goal. That’s a pretty powerful team.’
