Dak Prescott Opens Up About Balancing Fatherhood and His NFL Career as Cowboys Quarterback

This year’s OTAs have taken on a new meaning for Dak Prescott, now that he’s navigating his NFL career as a first-time dad.

Dak Prescott focused on now amid contract talks

The Cowboys quarterback and his partner welcomed their first child in February, and Prescott recently shared how fatherhood has influenced his ninth year in the league.

“It’s been great,” Prescott said. “I credit Mom at home. She’s a champion. She allows me to come in here and focus when I need to focus and she makes sure that house runs. Honestly, I’m blessed to be able to come in and give all my energy here. Give all my attention here. But then the moment I break these walls, I’m excited to get back to the little girl and see my family. It’s been a blessing and a great balance.”

During discussions with reporters, Prescott also delved into his contract situation, emphasizing his passion for the game over financial incentives.

“I don’t play for money. Never have, never cared for it, to be honest with you,” he remarked. “Would give it up just to play this game. So, I leave that to the business people to determine what they’re supposed to give a quarterback of my play, a person of my play, a leader of my play. For me, it’s about, as I said, controlling what I can control and handling that part, and the rest will take care of itself.”

Having signed a four-year, $160 million extension in 2021, Prescott is poised for another significant contract in the near future.

With his cap hit expected to be substantial this year, there’s an opportunity for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys management to potentially ease financial pressures by negotiating a new deal with the three-time Pro Bowler.
