The Dallas Cowboys are 3-4 and solidly stuck in the chase for a Wild Card spot. Unless the team goes on a big run, the number one seed is out of the question. Most top seeds end up with four or five losses, and the Cowboys have already hit that mark.
With 2024 turning out to be a different regular season for Dak Prescott’s team, NFL analyst Cam Newton questioned why the team is getting as much attention as it currently is.
“Why are we talking about the irrelevant Dallas Cowboys? You’re making a point of Micah Parsons. Yes, he’s succeeding with podcasting, with content,” Newton said on ESPN’s First Take on Friday. “That’s the thing. We all have podcasts. But that’s not the only player that’s actively playing with a podcast.”
He complained about players like Micah Parsons hosting their podcasts while their team struggles. Parsons’ most recent episode was posted on Tuesday, just two days after their loss to the San Francisco 49ers to fall under .500.
Dallas might be borderline irrelevant heading into Week 9, but the team still has a window to make some noise in the NFC playoff race. The top spot is most likely out of reach, but if Dallas can rally over their next four games, they can kick the door back open.
It starts with the 5-3 Atlanta Falcons, who could be a top competitor in the Wild Card race at a bare minimum. Nabbing the tiebreaker and jumping to 4-4 could be critical down the stretch.
Following that, the team faces a Philadelphia Eagles team currently ahead of them in both the divisional and Wild Card races. A win could be big in either arena.
In Dak Prescott’s next two games, he faces the Houston Texans and the Washington Commanders. If the Cowboys can rip off a four-game winning streak, they will have three tiebreakers and a win in the battle for Texas over the Texans. This would set the team up beautifully for a playoff berth.
However, if they slump against the difficult lineup, they could wake up 3-7 and find themselves sleepwalking to the finish. Will Prescott rise to the occasion or crumble under the pressure?
