New York Jets’ running back Breece Hall has been ordered to pay a hefty financial penalty for lowering his head and initiating contact on a first-quarter rushing attempt last week against Atlanta.

The National Football League has fined Hall in the amount of $43,709 for “unnecessary roughness” according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. There was no penalty flag thrown on the play, which occurred on the Jets’ first possession of the December 3 home game.

The helmet-to-helmet hit happened on a 3rd-and-11 run after catch. Hall caught a check down pass over the middle at the Jets’ 15-yard line and cut it outside to the left. Taking on Falcons’ cornerback A.J. Terrell at the 20, Hall surged forward and put the defender on the ground after a seven-yard gain.

Terrell remained down, briefly needing medical attention following the hit. The defensive back subsequently landed in concussion protocol and was not cleared until December 9.

Hall struggled to gain traction against the Falcons’ run defense, totaling 16 yards on 13 carries with a long run of nine yards. He added 29 yards receiving on six receptions.

Posting to the social media site formerly known as Twitter, Hall commented while sharing a clip of the expensive play.

“I’ll just let him dive at my knees next time I guess?🧐 not like I tore my ACL or anything lol,” said Hall in an X post.

After missing two practices this past week, Hall is officially questionable to play against Houston in Week 14 due to an ankle injury.

Two weeks ago, Jets’ cornerback Sauce Gardner received a fine for unnecessary roughness that stemmed from his post-whistle suplex takedown of Buffalo receiver Stefon Diggs in Week 11.
